***THIS IS A SEASONAL ITEM AND WE WILL HAVE MORE IN THE FALL OF 2012***Chestnuts roasting on an open fire...Traditional fresh chestnuts. Everyone loves that delicious taste and unforgettable smell of fresh roasting chestnuts. These are the largest chestnuts grown, and are flown in from Italy.
To help preserve their freshness, your bag might arrive with little holes punched in them. This is normal and is done only to keep them fresh.
Chestnuts have a very high moisture content, and are extremely perishable. They must be stored under refrigeration in as close to freezing temperatures as possible. It is also recommended that they are stored with as high humidity as possible. If stored in this manner, they can stay fresh for a couple of weeks. We recommend storing the nuts in perforated plastic bags, or solid plastic bags that you've put some holes in. Place a damp paper towel in with them. To cook chestnuts, you can boil them or roast them. When roasting, cut a small slit in the chestnut to prevent them from exploding during the roasting process. Bake in the oven at 425 for 10-15 minutes or until the outer skin begins to peel back. You can also cook on the stove top or over an open flame.

I also got some chestnuts which I break open with a hammer and sautee the nuts inside in some olive oil for 5 minutes and eat them that way. Yeah, I like chestnuts and have never had them roasted, just sauteed in olive oil and sprinkled with pepper and mayby some cayenne. Good with soup. Thanx for the extra goodie of apricots from Turkey. Aaron, Vancouver, WA December 29th, 2011“OK so I got my Chestnuts a couple of days ago and just roasted some today. WOW what a great taste these guys have. I roasted them in the oven at 425 for 15 minutes after cutting a long slit in them and simmering (bring to a simmer and then drain) them in water in a sauce pan with a little salt. The next batch will be roasted on New Years Eve. Happy New Year!”
