Organic red maca powder (raw) is an adaptogenic root that may enhance your ability to deal with stress while boosting energy, endurance and performance. Red maca is packed with even more vitamins and nutrients than regular maca. In traditional Peruvian culture, maca is believed to be an aphrodisiac. Find out for yourself, and blend a spoonful of this sweet powder into your smoothies, or mix with our organic cacao powder for a delightfully energizing effect!
While this is organic red maca powder, please note that it is tan in color and not red. Our organic maca powder is never heated and is considered raw.
Health Benefits of Red Maca
Organic red maca powder balances the body to create sustainable, balanced energy, though it is not a stimulant. It boasts an impressive nutrient profile with 60 potent nutrients, including beta-sitosterol, glucosinolates, and fatty acids. As an excellent source of protein, red maca contains 18 amino acids, including 7 of the 9 essential amino acids. Since maca is an adaptogenic root, it supports the normal function of the endocrine system, which regulates the secretion of hormones into the bloodstream. Proper hormonal balance can reduce the severity of menopausal symptoms, enhance the body's ability to deal with stress, boost a weakened immune system, and ward off mild depression. As a natural source of energy, maca can support weight loss goals by increasing metabolism and helping the body burn more calories over time.
Why RED Maca?
Organic red maca powder contains the same nutrient levels as other maca varieties, and then some. Compared to other varieties, red maca powder contains higher levels of phytochemicals. Studies suggest red maca may promote good prostate health, combat osteoporosis, and support bone regeneration.
1) In a study published in the Journal Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology 2005; 3:5, researchers reported that red maca significantly reduced ventral prostate size in rats. This effect was exclusive to red maca, and was not the case for either the black or yellow varieties.
2) Another study published by researchers from the Universidad Peruana, Lima in 2010, found that red maca had protective effects on the bone structure in rats with osteoporosis. This research has positive implications for the effect of red maca on bone health.
Red Maca In Your Diet
Red Maca has a mellow, sun-dried butterscotch flavor. Its mild flavor works well in drinks and foods. For a natural source of energy in the mornings, try adding a few teaspoons of red maca to your breakfast oatmeal or other hot cereals. We love mixing red maca in smoothies, milkshakes, and even hot chocolate. Or try adding a scoop to foods like chia pudding for an additional boost of energy and nutrients.
