History & Background of Muesli
Muesli or müsli was developed in 1900 by a Swiss German physician named Maximilian Bircher-Benner as a morning meal to serve his hospital patients. The dish is based on rolled or raw oats and typically includes a variety of dried fruits, nuts and seeds. It can be topped with milk, yogurt or non-dairy milks like soy milk. Bircher-Benner was inspired to make the dish by an energy-rich trail mix he and his wife were served while hiking in the Alps. Muesli became popularized as a western breakfast in the 1960s as an interest in vegetarian and plant-based foods spiked.Read More
