Organic quinoa flakes are simply quinoa that has been rolled into a very thin flake. They’re commonly used to prepare a hot breakfast cereal. Quinoa (pronounced keen-wah) was once called “the gold of the Incas” for increasing the stamina of Incan warriors.
How to Cook Quinoa Flakes
You can prepare quinoa flakes on the stove top by bringing 1 cup of water to boil in a saucepan, adding 1/3 cup of quinoa flakes, and letting the quinoa cook for about 90 seconds. Turn off the heat and allow them to cool slightly. The mixture will thicken.
You can also prep them in the microwave by combining 1 cup of water and 1/3 cup of quinoa flakes in a microwave-safe bowl that’s twice the volume of the serving size being prepared. Microwave on HIGH for 2 - 2 1/2 minutes until thickened. Stir well before serving.
4 Surprising Health Benefits of Quinoa Flakes
1) Complete Protein: The protein value of quinoa flakes is extremely high (12-18% by weight). Per serving, quinoa flakes pack nearly six grams of high-quality protein, including all nine essential amino acids that the body must obtain through food.
2) Dietary Fiber: Quinoa flakes are also a great source of dietary fiber. They offer three grams of fiber per serving, which is nearly 12 percent of the recommended daily value.
3) Iron: A bowl of quinoa flakes can provide 22 percent of the recommended daily value for iron. This important mineral is responsible for transporting oxygen-rich red blood cells throughout the body. Fight fatigue with quinoa flakes!
4) Easy to Digest: Quinoa is a seed, which makes it a naturally gluten-free breakfast option. It’s a good alternative for people who are unable to digest wheat easily.

I combine 10 grain cereal, barley flakes and quinoa flakes for a delicious and nutritious hot cereal. A large batch made once a week and portion rewarmed with milk and cinnamon and nuts in the morning makes for an easy breakfast.

This is the second time I've ordered these and both times the flakes tasted incredibly bitter and I had to throw them away. Apparently that can happen if the quinoa isn't rinsed well enough before being milled. I thought the first one was maybe just a bad batch but no, same thing with the second order. I will avoid these from now on.
