Glucomannan powder is derived from the roots of the Konjac plant. Our Glucomannan powder can be used to aid weight loss since it is a soluble fiber that creates a feeling of fullness so you end up eating less and losing weight. It can also be used as a gluten-free thickening agent in food applications.
Mix 1/2 tsp of powder with 8-oz of water and drink approximately 30 minutes before a meal. Drink immediately before it starts to gel.
To use glucomannan powder as a thickener, first whisk it with cold water and then combine it with the other ingredients in your recipe. One teaspoon of glucomannan powder is recommended for thickening one cup of liquid, although you should first experiment with a small amount to obtain desired results. Glucomannan powder is a tasteless and odorless substitute for cornstarch in recipes. You can also try it with smoothies and sauces.
Health Benefits of Glucomannan Powder
Weight Loss Aid
Glucomannan powder can help induce fullness to prevent overeating. In an eight-week double-blind study published in the International Journal of Obesity, 1-g doses of glucomannan fiber were given to obese patients prior to meals. The participants did not change their regular eating or exercise habits during the course of the study, but they still lost an average of 5.5 pounds using the glucomannan supplement. Serum cholesterol and LDL “bad” cholesterol levels were also reduced.
Lower Cholesterol Levels
As a pure soluble fiber, glucomannan powder can help lower cholesterol levels by interfering with its absorption. Research published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition observed the effects of glucomannan supplementation in healthy men. The study found that the glucomannan fibers reduced total cholesterol by 10%, LDL “bad” cholesterol by 7.2%, triglycerides by 23%, and systolic blood pressure by 2.5%.
Type 2 Diabetes
Glucomannan supplementation has also been shown to improve blood lipid and glucose levels in type 2 diabetic patients. A double-blind study published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition found that konjac glucomannan supplementation improved blood lipid levels and reduced glucose levels in hyperlipidemic diabetic patients.
