Cooking Directions: |

In a medium bowl add flour and salt. Cut in the shortening.

Beat egg yolk in measuring cup and add enough milk to make 2/3 of a cup of liqud. Mix well and then stir into flour mixture to make a stiff dough.

On floured surface roll half the dough into a 17" x 12" rectange and place in baking pan.

Sprinkle about a half a cup of sliced almonds over the dough, toss sliced apples with 3 tbsp flour and arrange apples over almonds. Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon over apples. Beat egg white lightly and brush on top.

Bake at 350 F for 35 to 40 minutes. Remove and brush on more egg white and sprikle on remaining almonds. Bake 5 more minutes until almonds are toasted. Drizzle with powdered sugar glaze while wamr and cut into bars.

Straight from California, these almonds are thinly sliced and easy to use when baking. They're also great for topping a string bean casserole or an almond cake.
