Wheat Germ (Raw)
Sprinkle all-natural, raw wheat germ on top of homemade bread or incorporate into homemade granola. Wheat germ is at the center of a grain of wheat and is responsible for the growth and development of the new plant sprout. Although only a small part of the wheat seed, the germ is concentrated with nutrients including niacin, thiamin, riboflavin, vitamin E, folate, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, iron and zinc. Wheat germ also contains protein, fiber and some fat.
How to Use Wheat Germ
Make your own whole wheat flour substitute by combining 2 tablespoons of wheat germ with 7/8 cup of all-purpose flour. Mix and use the flour as you would in any recipe calling for whole wheat flour. Or add 1-2 tablespoons of wheat germ to oatmeal, hot cereals, and baked goods.
