Mulberry leaf powder is an up-and-coming superfood, ground from the antioxidant-rich leaves of the white mulberry tree. Promising research suggests that mulberry leaf powder may lower blood sugar and high cholesterol. It is also packed with B-complex vitamins, vitamin C, amino acids, and minerals. Experience the benefits for yourself with a cup of mulberry leaf tea!

Mulberry Leaf Powder Dosage

Typical dosage is approx. 500-mg/day. Mulberry leaf powder can be mixed into hot water, smoothies, juices, oatmeal, yogurt and more.

How to Make Mulberry Leaf Tea

To make a simple white mulberry leaf tea, mix 500 mg of the powder with 1/ cup of water. Mulberry leaf powder lends a pleasant, smooth taste to a cup of tea; it is comparable in flavor to green tea.

Health Benefits of Mulberry Leaves

Mulberry leaf powder may help lower blood sugar and reduce LDL cholesterol levels. One study demonstrated that participants who ingested mulberry leaf extract with 75 grams of sucrose (table sugar) experienced reduced blood glucose levels during the initial 120 minutes of testing. This was the case for both healthy participants and participants with type 2 diabetes (Mudra, Ercan-Fang, Zhong, Furne & Levitt, 2007). This study and others suggest that consuming mulberry leaf extract may improve blood sugar control.

Another study was conducted to evaluate the lipid-lowering effect of mulberry tea extract on non-diabetic patients with elevated blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels. The participants were given mulberry leaf extract three times a day before each meal for a period of 12 weeks. The results showed that the mulberry leaf tablets were effective at lowering the total cholesterol, triglyceride and LDL “bad” cholesterol levels. At the same time, HDL “good” cholesterol levels improved. The results also concluded that mulberry leaf supplementation was a safe and effective therapy for treating dyslipidemia (elevated cholesterol or fats in the blood).

I was diagnosed with low iron in my blood which made me unable to donate. I read about the high, natural concentration of iron in Mulberries, but knew I couldn’t eat enough, often enough, to impact my iron levels. By adding 1 tablespoon of Mulberry Leaf Powder to my daily morning vitamin/supplements regimen
