Healthy Bird Nutrition...in a Nutshell

In nature, birds eat what they find: tree nuts, fruits, grains, flowers, and the occasional vegetable. Pet birds should eat as natural a diet as possible, too. We are proud of our inexpensive, simple nuts, fruits and seeds - and bird owners swear by them! Here are suggestions for some popular species. (Just remember that bird diets must include more than just seeds and nuts, and that they cannot eat the human treats we sell like chocolate and coffee!)

Budgies burn for:
Almonds in the shell
Dates
Hazelnut kernels
Peanuts
Dark Raisins

Canaries clamor for:
Dried Papaya
Dried Pineapple
Jumbo Golden Raisins

Cockatiels covet:

Don't take it from us, listen to our happy customers!

I could not be happier with your product and service. I am a devoted new customer.I have a two large macaws and two smaller parrots who require nuts as part of their diets. My largest macaw eats almost brazil nuts exclusively and yours are the highest quality! We moved to Minnesota from southern California and have had a hard time finding quality nuts at reasonable prices and I am extremely pleased to find your website. Until recently I have had to have my nuts shipped from California or pay ridiculous prices at a specialty bird store. You will now be my exclusive bird nut suppliers and I look forward to trying your other products as well! Many thanks from my nutty family to yours...

Fun and Playful Feeding Tips

We know that birds love to crack our nuts in their beaks and pick out the tasty morsels inside. But you can make snacktime even more delicious for your bird. Here are some great ideas from our good friend Anne C. Watkins.

1. Put some yummy nuts in foraging toys. This could be as simple as putting a couple of almonds (or the nut of your choice) in a small cardboard box and letting the bird work to get the nut out of the box. Shredding the box is a fun activity for many birds (especially parrot-type birds) and then they find the reward--a yummy nut!

Note: for smaller birds like budgies, lovebirds, or parrotlets, crack the shells of harder nuts before offering them. This will enable the birds to get a taste of the treat inside the shell and they'll enjoy working to get at the delicious nutmeat.

2. Bake up some birdie bread. Using a packaged cornbread mix as a base, add nuts, seeds, fruits, veggies, and other nutritious birdie favorites. Bake according to package directions. Let cool; cut into appropriately sized chunks and serve. Freeze portions to thaw and serve at a later date.

3. Share your favorite nuts or dried fruits with your feathered friend. This can be a special bonding experience for the two of you. However, remember that fruit contains a lot of sugar so offer dried or fresh fruits as occasional treats.
