Organic Lucuma Powder is an excellent source of fiber, vitamins and minerals including remarkable concentrations of beta carotene, niacin and iron. Made from dehydrated lucuma fruit, it is considered one of the Lost Crops of the Incas. Lucuma powder is a low-glycemic sweetener with a caramel-like taste that goes well in foods and desserts.
Our organic lucuma powder is never heated and is considered raw.
How to Enjoy Lucuma Powder
Lucuma fruit has a naturally sweet taste that people describe as being similar to maple, custard, or pumpkin. Organic lucuma powder is an extremely versatile and tasty ingredient which blends well with ice creams, baby food, yogurts, pies, cakes, cookie fillings and desserts. As a general rule of thumb, you can substitute 1 tablespoon of regular sugar for 2 tablespoons of lucuma powder in your recipes. Experiment to find the amount of sweetness that works best for you. Sprinkle it over oatmeal and cereal, or mix it into salad dressing and smoothies for a nutritional boost.
What is Lucuma?
Native to South America, lucuma fruit (Pouteria lucuma) is an exotic green fruit with a starchy yellow-orange flesh. Once known as the ‘Gold of the Incas,’ the reverence for this nutritional, subtropical fruit was reflected in the art and ceramics of ancient Peruvian cultures. Its enticing and unique taste is especially popular in countries like Peru and Chile, where it is one of the most desired ice cream flavors. Lucuma fruit is also referred to as lucmo and eggfruit.

YUM!! I LOVE LUCUMA!!!! I eat as much of it as I can find when I'm in Latin America and miss it tremendously when back in the States. Thank you THANK YOU for carrying this so I can sigh deeply with contentment when I taste it in my smoothies, stirred into my yogurt, sprinkled into whatever.
