Gram flour is also known as besan or garbanzo flour and is made from ground chickpeas. This tasty and Gluten-Free flour is naturally high in protein and fiber and is a staple in Indian, Pakistani and other South Asian cuisines. Our finely milled gram flour is imported from India.

Health Benefits of Gram Flour

Full of Folate! Gram flour is rich in folate, a vitamin that boosts protein production and helps with the creation of genetic materials. That makes gram flour great for growing kids, and especially beneficial for pregnant women as it may prevent defects in brain and spinal cord development. A half cup of gram flour boasts 200 micrograms of folate.

Protein Powersource! Gram flour beats out wheat flour in the protein department. A half cup of gram flour contains 10 grams of protein, compared to 6 grams in the same serving of wheat flour.

Rich in Plant-Based Fats! Although gram flour has a higher fat content than wheat flours, chickpeas are rich in a healthy, unsaturated fat that may work to lower cholesterol.

Iron Hero! Chickpeas contain a good amount of iron, a mineral known for aiding to carry oxygen around the body. Iron can also contribute to collagen production, the fat that keeps our skin looking full and youthful.

More Minerals! Gram flour is also packed with magnesium and phosphorus, two very healthy nutrients. Magnesium is a natural, healthy muscle relaxer which contributes to healthy blood pressure. Phosphorous works with calcium to build strong, healthy bones.

Uses for Gram Flour

Tofu alternative: Want the light taste and versatility of tofu with less soy? Try making chickpea tofu with besan flour.

As fries: Chickpea fries are simple to make with water, besan flour and the spices of your choice.

Try a flour facial: South Asian brides have been known to utilize besan flour, turmeric and olive oil to create an exfoliating and brightening facial mask. Besan flour is thought to help with skin dullness and scarring when applied topically.

Very fresh- this flour gets an off taste if it isn't fresh or stored properly. Much better than what is locally available. Wonderful for vegetable fritters.
