Make your own dosa and other South Indian dishes at home with our urad dal. Also known as white lentils, split urad dal has been cultivated in India for centuries. The consistency of urad dal tends to be thicker than other dals, and can be prepared as a tasty side dish served with rice or roti. Rich in dietary fiber, protein and B-complex vitamins, urad dal is a healthy addition to any diet. One taste and it will quickly become one of your go-to pantry staples!

How to Cook Urad Dal

Rinse the urad dal thoroughly prior to cooking. Pour it into a pot and cover with an inch of water. Bring the water to a boil, then lower the heat to a simmer. Cover and cook for at least 30 minutes, or until tender. Stir occasionally and add more water as needed. Add salt, pepper, and seasonings to taste.
