The consistency of urad dal tends to be thicker than other dals, and can be prepared as a tasty side dish served with rice or roti. Rich in dietary fiber, protein and B-complex vitamins, urad dal is a healthy addition to any diet. One taste and it will quickly become one of your go-to pantry staples!
How to Cook Urad Dal
Rinse the urad dal thoroughly prior to cooking. Pour it into a pot and cover with an inch of water. Bring the water to a boil, then lower the heat to a simmer. Cover and cook for at least 30 minutes, or until tender. Stir occasionally and add more water as needed. Add salt, pepper, and seasonings to taste.
